The 50th Annual Mimosa Festival

February is the month that the weather gets warmer and the flowers begin to bloom.  Montenegro celebrates the beginning of Spring with a HUGE festival.....The Mimosa Festival.
The celebrations continue for the whole month of February and into March.
We popped into the Tourist Information kiosk and picked up a programme which describes every event that is going on.
Excellent......except it is only in Serbian.
Deb has been translating it and our host, Flavia, has also been confirming the places and events that we don't want to miss.

Unfortunately it started off rough......the weather was horrible.  Torrential rain and wind, thus the first day and evening festivities were postponed for a week.

However, today, we are heading, on the bus, to Baosici, a village about 20 minutes away on the sea for our first taste of this celebration.

The Belle of the Ball, the Mimosa flower.  When we arrived, they were handing it out to everyone.

The village of Baosici is hosting a 'Fish & Wine' celebration which we wanted to enjoy.
Free wine, which Deb tried, and free beer.

Wonder what this fish is for?  Looks like sardines.

Free fish sandwiches too.

The fish is lightly floured and seasoned, deep fried and served with two slices of bread.

The entire fish is served.  You got it...with the head on too.

The trick to eating them is to break off their wee head, pull out the spinal bone in one piece, and eat up the rest of the delicious fish.  Sounds nasty but is so good.
Oh....but not for Deb.
Ok....I will gobble it up for us both.

Volim te means I Love You in Serbian.  A lady was selling these tasty, soft cookies for 1 euro.

These two colourful gals were everywhere....posing and bringing laughter to all.
The rain doesn't deter these people......so much fun.
