Funiculars In Genoa....The Stunning Views

From Via Garibaldi we took a wee alley and found the Funicular that travels from Portello to Bertani.
Same price as the bus 1.50 euros, good for 100 minutes, you can purchase from the machine easily.
Have the correct change.

A set of staircases along the cement wall...an alternative to funicular riding.

I met a lovely woman on the funicular that shared with me that this area is for people with means.  It is a gorgeous neighbourhood.
She walked us as far as she could to show us the way to the viewing piazza.
So sweet of her.

A choice of going down....we are not ready...we just got here.
Or heading to the right....near this cute, scenic cafe.

We can already see the incredible residences from here.
Sweeping views.

With the mountains as the backdrop who would not want to live here?

Here is another mode of transportation.  It is an elevator.
We took it when we headed back for home.
It is also the focal point of Spianata di Castelletto (Belvedere Montaldo).
Belvedere in Italian means view point.
This piazza takes it's name from a fort that stood here in the 10th century.

It has some of the most scenic views of the city of Genoa.
Check out the stairway bridge for these folks to get to their homes below.

You can see the Port from here.

The rooftops of the Old Town.

A better full view of the workings of BIGO. (below)

You are lifted up by a crane apparatus....very interesting.

This is the elevator that comes up from Piazza Portello below.
Little Deb pondering the incredible views here.

I zoomed in on my camera to see the Lanterna lighthouse. (below)
There has been a lighthouse in that spot for a millennium!

Old town of Genoa.

The Spianata di Castelletto is used by everyone.  Here we have snugglers.  A group of young people enjoying lunch.  Grandparents with toddlers.  Moms with strollers.
Tourists from Canada astounded by the sights.

We will be taking friends up here next week to see this.
Gorgeous.

Time for a wee something.....ok....that will definitely do.

Quiet serenity.

Beautiful art, mosaics tiles, line the station when we arrive at the bottom.

That was fantastic....I want to do it again.....
Let's go higher!!!!
