Hello Boccadasse

Goodies we purchased at the market.
Blood oranges...oh my gosh....yummy.
Flat bread, salami, cheese, cherry tomatoes and carrots.
Lunch and then we are going wandering.

Corso Italia is an exceptionally gorgeous promenade in Genoa.  Located right at the waters edge of the Ligurian Sea. Building of it began after the first World War and has had some upgrades over the years.  It is over 2.5 kilometers long and is my new favourite running path.
The view is hard to take.

Each time I look out over the sea from the promenade I see sailboats.  It is a very popular place for them.

The Genoa Riviera.....spectacular.
In the very far distance, the dark land projecting into the sea is Portofino.
Beyond Portofino is Cinque Terra.....which is where we are going next week.  But that's another post.

This tiny, narrow, obscure ancient alley is called a creuza.  It connects the village of Boccadasse to the city.  But hidden.  Carved into the rocks.
Boccadasse, according to legend, was founded in the year 1000.  Spanish fisherman found safety here during a storm which is how it was discovered.

(Below) The Church of Sant'Antonio di Padova.
A Roman Catholic church built in 1787.
The Bell Tower can be seen from all along the promenade.

Below the church, at sea level, is a small square called Belvedere Firpo.

The incredible ancient fishing village of Boccadasse. Beautiful pastel colours make this little village look as it was two centuries ago.
I actually found this accidentally when I was looking for another path for running.  After I returned home I announce to Debbie I had found a very special place to explore today.

The people come out and fill every little spot on the beach to enjoy the sights and sounds of this sea side village.

And when the beach is full....every rock on the break wall is utilized for relaxation and soaking up the sun.

Even the doggies hang out on the break wall.

There is a gelato place right near the beach....this is the line up!
I don't mind waiting at all....but........

.......Deb and I already found a gelato place on the promenade earlier.
Strawberry and chocolate.  Lemon and Pistachio.

Tables are at a premium here....but check out the view.
This is Sunday afternoon.

We decide to head through the Boccadasse to explore the interior streets.
It is like a maze....amazing.

Heading up higher and higher...following the paths....we are rewarded with this sweeping view of Boccadasse.

Some of the winding streets actually end.....but that's ok.  Turning around and continue on.

Rocca Tirrena was designed and built in 1903 in the image of a medieval castle in Boccadasse.

Our choice now...on our wandering...is to go down....yikes....or.....

......to follow this lovely pathway with the cascading mounds of gorgeous greenery.....we pick this way.

Our new, not far from our apartment, haunt.

Canestrella, daisy shaped cookies and cappuccinos.
A traditional biscuit that is a cross between a shortbread and sugar cookie.

Hello Little Debbie.
