Wow!!! Can't believe we are blessed to be in Venice again..... in one lifetime.
Let me start by saying the weather, end of March, was incredible. 17' C to 20' C and sunny gorgeous skies.
We are here this time with our friends Trudi and Gail. Gail has been before, but Trudi has not. Choosing to wander and enjoy the city was the priority this trip.
No big monuments visited, no gondola ride, no standing in line ups all day, we chose to soak it up.
Getting lost in Venice...that's the ticket.
We are booked in an Airbnb and the location is priceless. It is about a 10 minute walk from the very popular Strada Nova street and amongst the local residents.
Perfect.
First order of the day was to get some lunch after a 5 hour train trip from Genoa.
This is Gail's ham pizza.....now that is a piece of ham I'd say....lol.
The incredible canals of Venice.
Venice is actually built on a lagoon consisting of more than 118 small islands.
Laced with one hundred and fifty canals.....and over 400 bridges to cross them.
Trudi and I ran our 12 km run through Venice....the bridges are plentiful.
A patient Gondolier....waiting for business.
The amazing Rialto Bridge; the oldest of the four bridges that span the Grand Canal.
This bridge has been rebuilt four times since the 12th Century. This present bridge was built in the 16th Century.
It is a tourist magnet. You can barely walk on it, so very, very crowded. But it is still a must.
The views from the top of the bridge, of the Grand Canal, make for the most breathtaking photos.
Like this one below.
You cannot take a bad photo from up there.
Gail and Trudi on our evening at the Rialto Bridge.
A quieter canal at sunset.
This is a view of the canal in front of our Airbnb.
Gorgeous.
Heading in for the night....Tomorrow is another day.
