Market Day in Herceg Novi

Market Day and Deb and I are excited to get some produce....but still wondering if we will get by with a little...actually no Serbian words yet.

A restaurant that has a great menu of fresh fish...why buy and cook it when they do an excellent job and it is so cheap to eat out.  I'll let you know what we think.

Coming around the corner we find the Organic Market.
I make my first purchase from the lady with amazing looking brussel sprouts.  It only cost me about two euros for one kilo.

It is a hoping place....everyone is doing their shopping too.

Dried fish on a line...we actually didn't try it.

Last shopping stop is at the Bakery where everyone is heading.  So as I have learned to do...I watch the locals and follow.  The young man in front of me bought 3/4 of this pan of pastry.  I decide that I would like to try something different so I too order a a good size piece.  It is a Turkish pastry called 'Rolled Burek' which is phyllo pastry wrapped around cheese or meat. I liked it.  Easy to eat....you just pull the rings off....

The Old Town Square.....

Heading back home to put away our treasures we bought at the market.  This is the entrance (Flavia's terrace) to our apartment upstairs.  Some of the vines growing on this trellis hold kiwi fruits that she tells us will be harvested soon....100's she tell me and says I can help.....and eat some.

Our treasures.....all for about 24 euros.
Freshly made honey, beets (huge), sweet potatoes, a whole cabbage, Butternut squash, a kilo each of kiwis, brussel sprouts, potatoes and oranges.  A pomegranate (delicious), chocolate covered orang rings, and about 30 fresh figs on twine.
I can't believe it.

Ok....I've got to say I LOVE FIGS.....but to put it gently I have actually been sick since the Market Saturday (it is Tuesday) as I ate too many.  Good to know....and I won't do that again.

This cauliflower is a micro sized one...it fits in Deb's hand.

And the star of the show....kiwis freshly picked!!!
Next Saturday is the Market in Kotor....via the bus for one hour....we are planning on going.  Pictures for sure.
