We Have Arrived! Herceg Novi, Montenegro

We definitely took the Sunday drive to get here;  flying to and staying in Paris for 4 nights.  Flying from Paris to Zagred, Croatia and quickly catching yet another plane to take us to Dubruvnik, Croatia.  Flavia (our Airbnb host) arranged for a driver, Marcos, to pick us up in Dubruvnik and drive us across the Montengro border to our home for two months....Herceg Novi.
But we are here now...almost unpacked...groceries in the fridge....Wifi is excellent....and preparing to live as a local for the next two months.

Kiwis growing on a vine right at the gate to our apartment.

Debbie heading out for lunch.

Selfie on the fortress....seriously, it is not me.
The Fortress Forte Mare.

Herceg Novi is a small town, about 33,000 people, on the coast of the Adriatic Sea, in the country of Montenegro.  It has had a turbulent history of being conquered, annexed, invaded, and divided.  Lastly it was part of the old Yugoslavia which separated into pieces and now, Montenegro is an independent country.  Located across the Adriatic Sea from Italy, bordered by Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo and Albania.

A view to the sea.

We are actually at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor.  One of the newest cruise destination stops.

Because the grocery stores are closed we had brunch at one of the local restaurants with those amazing views of the harbour and sea.  Ok if we have to.
Prices are again, cheap compared to Canada and definitely Paris.
Deb and I shared a pizza (4 slices each), a large bottle of San Pellegrino,  and two cappuccinos....the price was only 15 euros ($23. Canadian).

Not sure why...maybe because we are excellent ambassadors of Canada, but our waitress who is starting to like us (she is very reserved and stern faced, but beautiful) gave us these two delicious  cookies free of charged at the end of our meal.  So very kind.
Chocolate inside with crushed walnuts outside...yummy.

A gentle, short tour as it is raining today and damp cold.

Happy news....we found a wee grocery store and purchased a few essentials.
3 kiwis...about 32 cents Canadian.....who's flying over to Montenegro?
